The words we speak are really amplified thoughts that originate in our minds and give rise to very weak electromagnetic signals. Yet those same thoughts become hugely amplified and transcribed to sound every time we speak, sing or pray out loud. In this way our thoughts can be shared with the world, or at least those within earshot. But what if the sounds we make were converted into light? The light would zip through the atmosphere and carry our words to the stars. Is this poetic soliloquy or perhaps some new high-tech science or maybe even science fiction? Actually it is science fact, one that’s been around for decades, although it is an aspect of sound and light not commonly known.
